Charity - Supporting those in need
Kindness and charitable giving are deeply ingrained within the principles of Freemasonry. The organisation provides a support structure that helps members make positive contributions to communities and worthwhile causes through fundraising events or volunteer work.
As a Lodge we support local causes
They say that charity begins at home and in our case this means supporting good causes near to us.
The Michelham Priory Lodge is pleased to announce that St. Wilfid's Charity Shop is now open and using the shop space at the front of our building.
The Lodge have donated the space free of rent to the hospice shop and we wish them every success.
The members of the Michelham Priory Lodge do their best to support local charities and good causes, including:

Are you a local charity? We can help
Contrary to popular belief, one does not have to be a Freemason to benefit from Masonic charity, the Freemasons are the second largest provider of funds to charity, only the National Lottery donates more.
If you manage a local charity and you are looking for assistance, then perhaps we can help.
For more information please contact our Charity Steward.
The Masonic Charitable Foundation (MCF) builds better lives by enabling opportunity, advancing healthcare and education and promoting independence for Freemasons, their families and the wider community.
The MCF is one of the largest grant-making charities in the country supporting Freemasons and their families as well as charities across England and Wales.
Wider Charitable Grants
In the year 2020/21 we adapted and developed our range of support to help the most vulnerable and disadvantaged people in society, for example:
£20.5M of charitable support – funded entirely through the donations Freemasons, their families and friends – was awarded by the Masonic Charitable Foundation (MCF, the Freemasons’ charity) through 6,571 grants and of these grants, 23% totalling £4.7M focused on supporting people across society through COVID-19. Including our work, Freemasonry contributed £51M to charitable causes this year.
More than 1,000 local and national charities were funded
MCF in Sussex
In Sussex in partnership with local Freemasons, the MCF gave £205,481 in grants to help continue the work of 35 charities in Sussex. Of these, 17 charities were in need of support as a result of COVID-19.
